Founded in 1066, this historic castle on the northbank of the River Thames has
a very colourful history and grim reputation. Since approx 1100 the Tower of
London has been used at various stages as a prison and held many famous
prisoners from all levels of society including monarchy. You can visit the
locations they were held and read the graffiti left by prisoners from over 500
years ago.
The Tower of London has also been enjoyed as a royal palace, an armoury, the
seat of British government, the repository of the Crown Jewels and even housed
a Zoo. Today, the tower is still home to flightless ravens and legend has it
that the kingdom and the Tower will fall if the six resident ravens ever leave
the fortress. There is so much to see here, from the oppressive White Tower to
the magnificent Crown Jewels. Check out all this and more while enjoying a
visit to the tower for yourself and steep yourself in the rich history and
legends that the Tower of London has to offer. You may even rub shoulders with
the ghost of Anne Boleyn who is rumoured to be in residency here!
